![]() Hagara the Stormbinder: This fight seems to be a bad one for demonology with the amount of movement in it. No need to worry about having to recast all your DoTs against it is huge since you can spend what little mana you have left nuking it down with Shadow Bolts. Affliction seems like the best choice out of all these since you can easily swap DoTs from one target to the next (which is especially crucial against the Mana Voids). The burst damage that destruction provides is useful on the Mana Voids and the ooze adds, but poor against the Forgotten Ones that pop up if you let the black ooze through. Your DoTs in demonology spec are okay, but much weaker than affliction. To go from the boss, then to an ooze, then to a mana void, then back to the boss again is kinda frustrating. The bad news is there’s a decent amount of target swapping, which isn’t exactly great for demonology. ![]() You can get a solid amount of DPS that way. The good thing for demonologists is that there is a decent amount of AoE if the black ooze comes up a lot. Yor’sahj the Unsleeping: This fight is a very weird one. Their DoTs do a bit better than demonology’s as well. Destruction does do some solid damage here as well and can’t be ruled out, since you can Conflag and Improved Soul Fire on the move. ![]() And demonology’s DoTs are much weaker than affliction’s for certain. Again, the reasons are obviously: (1) you’re not in melee range thus not able to take advantage of Shadowflame or Immolation Aura when you’re in Demon Form and (2) you’re doing considerable amount of movement, which means you’re not dealing a whole lot of damage other than your DoTs. However, if you’re not in melee range, I would say you should avoid going demonology. I didn’t have to move a whole lot and I took advantage easily of the second phase buff on Zon’ozz, easily dealing considerable amount of damage to get around 41,000 DPS by the end of the fight. Obviously, I took the chance to do this fight in melee range to maximize my Demon Form damage. Warlord Zon’ozz: When we did this fight, we were short on people in melee range. Affliction or destruction might be better for this fight because of this as well. Without being around the boss for the entire duration of Immolation Aura plus Shadowflame, you do lose some important DPS that way. The movement on the fight makes your effectiveness on that fight rather difficult to maximize your Demon Form damage. However, if you’re on bubble duty, you may want to consider swapping specs, namely affliction. If you’re spending most of your time standing next to the boss, definitely go demonology spec. Morchok: I think this is definitely a possibility to do it in demonology spec. (Note that I’m taking this from a 10-man perspective) As I went through the instance, I managed to do the first five bosses decently in my demonology spec, being the #1 DPS in my group for four out of the five fights (Hagara took me to low health, no heals and an Ice Tomb resulted in me dying early on that fight).īut is it really worth doing this raid instance entirely in demonology spec? Or should there be swaps into other specs on certain boss fights? Here’s my thoughts on it. I will have to admit that I feel it’s more enjoyable than Firelands because (1) there’s a bit less trash to have to contend with and (2) we get to go back to Northrend and fight there. I’ve gotten a shot at it recently and it’s definitely different from the Firelands instance. 4.3 is out and as a result, we have a new raid instance: Dragon Soul.
